AMITY (NEWS CENTER Maine) -- Two people were sent to a local hospital after striking and killing a moose while driving.

Police say Jake DeHahn was driving south on Route 1 in Amity with a passenger when a moose walked onto the road in front of them. After hitting the animal, they traveled across a field where the car came to a final rest. DeHahn was trapped in the car and needed the jaws of life to be freed.

DeHahan and his passenger were transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
